Michel Torino’s origins in wine making date back to 1892 when the Michel family planted their first vines in Cafayate, Salta located in the North Western corner of Argentina. The company is now one of the largest producers in Salta and Argentina with over 700 hectares and a annual production of over 10 million litres.
The vineyards are located up to 1700m or 5500ft in valleys of the Andean mountains in one of the most stunning landscape ever to cultivate grapes. With 350 days of sun and practically no rain each vintage is very consistent in quality.
The company has a strong commitment to environmental issues. It has used “Zero farming” practices since 1990 minimising the use of chemicals and fertilizers.
The head wine maker for the Don David reserve range of wines is Santigo Palero.
They currently produce three levels of wines. The Collection range, Chardonnay, Torrontes, Malbec, Merlot, Tannat, Cabernet sauvignon. The Reserve Don David range, Chardonnay, Torrontes, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvigon. The Ultimus a Malbec/Cabernet /Syrah blend.
